Within less than a month, a second wrong way driver on the Interstate 210 freeway resulted in the death of another innocent victim. This time, a 19-year-old El Monte man was killed by an intoxicated driver driving the wrong way on the 210 Freeway in Azusa. In addition to the death of the innocent driver, a teenage passenger was also injured. The wrong way driver was intoxicated and attempted to run from the accident before he was caught and arrested. This tragic wrong-way accident happened shortly after 3:00 a.m., on Saturday, August 9, 2014.
These wrong way accidents are so serious and nearly always result in the death of one or more people. How are these accidents still happening? Often they are happening because of the abuse or drug and alcohol or driving while otherwise impaired. In other instances, these accidents happen due to the age of the wrong way driver who becomes disoriented and confused.
The only way to reduce the number of these accidents is for us to be vigilant and mindful when others are trying to get behind the wheel of a car when they are not capable. Don’t be afraid to take a stand and prevent them from driving. You may just save a life.
